Skincare Routine

Skincare Routine
// Not gonna lie, but I believe my heart tends to skip a beat when I start to think about product hauls and adding more to my giant pile of beauty products…eeek the excitement!! I just recently re-stocked my morning/night skincare routine products and since I’ve gotten numerous emails of fellow bloggers requesting me to do a skincare routine, I figured why not and see what other types of recommendations or products my fellow bloggers have in store?!
Moving on, I was always a little hesitant in spending such a big chunk on face products because I figured the drugstore brands are just as good (if not better) as your designer brand products.  I started to slowly transition to different types of more expensive skincare products and experimenting with the outcome.  I saw some pretty noticeable results from using the higher end brands and also by adding more products into the routine itself.  Eventually I went from 2-3 products to 7-8.   Following this habit, in a few months I ended up changing my entire skincare routine.  I realized that the more tedious your routine is…the better the results are.  Beauty is pain so suck it up buttercup 🙂
Through my experiments, I discovered my love for Danish skincare legend Ole Henriksen.  Totally hooked!!  He uses 100% natural vitamins and ingredients.  I used one of his sugar face scubs and I kid you not I could taste the brown sugar when I cleansed it off my face.
I have pretty sensitive skin.  I would say more sensitive than the average person.  I get ALOT of redness and dry/oily spots so finding the perfect (well almost perfect) skincare products is imperative for me.  It also makes sense to give your face some refreshment and use a set of difference products every 3rd or 4th day (especially for those of you who have combination skin-like me). My morning routine is a bit lighter and quicker because I don’t really feel like spending 15 to 20 min piling on products and feeling heavy throughout the day.  My night routine however, is heavier, deeper, and more nourishing, and rightfully so because you need a deep and rich clean to cleanse away all of the days makeup. \\

The Morning Routine.

My morning routine seems very complex but its really not.  Before I get into the product descriptions, I would just like to say that I REALLY RECOMMEND everyone to invest in a Clairsonic.  I have the Clairsonic Aria which runs about $220-$240 CAD/USD (depending where you purchase it).  I swear by this.  I have noticed exceptional results.  I know the price seems quite steep but I have been using it for about 4 months now and I have received numerous compliments and noticed great results.  The Clairsonic Aria comes with a standard cleansing brush head which is recommended for sensitive to normal skin.  I find that for my night routine its great because its a bit more coarse and it really gets in and cleanses out all the make-up and dirt buildup from throughout the day.  In the mornings however, I prefer something a little softer.  I ended up purchasing the Clairsonic Luxe Facial Brush Head in Cashmere Cleanse.  It is a bit pricy at $36 CAD/USD per brush head.  I only use this brush head for my morning routine because it features a dynamic dual-layer design which gently massages and cleanses my face. Its super soft and gentle but it still generates fluid forces to cleanse six times better than hands alone.
Moving onto the skincare products.  I have a very easy and quick 4-step morning face-wash routine which has significantly made my skin more glowing and healthier looking.
1.  Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Face Cleanser
I love love love this antioxidant face cleanser.  It is probably the only one I will ever want to use again.  It is so rich and creamy yet so light and its a foam so I put a few pumps onto my Clairsonic and in 1 minute it melts away all the dirt, oil, and any other residue (like makeup) without stripping my face like some other cleansers do.  Its  made WITHOUT parabens, sulfates, phthalates.  Ole did an exceptional job choosing this luxurious African red tea as the main backbone of the cleanser.  It is youth-restoring, skin strengthening, has vitamin C, and extracts of grapefruit, orange, and tangerine.  You can purchase the 1.2 oz at Sephora for $12 CAD/USD or you can purchase the bigger 7 oz bottle for $38.
2.  Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Face Mist
The red tea face mist is very refreshing and the main reason why I have added it into my morning routine.  A quick spray on your face and neck will renew and revitalize your skin with hydrating and age defending nutrients. Again, its is paraben, sulfate, and phthalates free.  It contains African red tea, mandarin, orange, and tangerine extracts, panthenol (hydrates and nourishes the skin with pro-vitamin B5), and pomegranate.
3.  Ole Henriksen Truth Serum/Pure Truth
I like to switch these two up every day to give my skin the best treatment possible.  The Truth Serum is a vitamin C collagen booster.  It is formulated to support natural collagen production, brighten, minimize pores and fine lines.  The serum absorbs into the skin like water onto a sponge.  It is enriched with green tea, grapefruit, rose hops seed, and orange extract.  It smells amazing!
The Pure Truth serum is a vitamin C youth activating oil.  This stuff is amazing which is why i use it sparingly.  It is a powerful activating oil infused with 100% organic rose hip seed oil, vitamin C, vitamin A, and high levels of essential fatty acids which brighten, repair, and nourish your skin.  I have noticed a reduction in lines and my pores are significantly shrunk.
4.  Ole Henriksen Truth Revealed
This cream is a luxurious day cream with amazing anti-aging benefits.  Its very light and leaves the skin with a light shimmer and luminous glow.  It has an SPF 15 so you can definitely wear this out during the day without putting on additional sun protection.  It works for all skin types and firms, boosts cell production to your face so you look lovely and glowing at all times.
5.  Ole Henriksen Truth Is In The Eyes (OPTIONAL)
This is a vitamin C peel concentrate for your eyes.  I put this as an option because I only tend to use it on days that I am extremely tired and have tired eyes.  Its the perfect natural and gentle antidote that repairs any dark circles or fine lines that you may have.

The Night Routine.

1.  Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Face Cleanser
Used with my Clairsonic Aria.
2.  Ole Henriksen Pure Truth (OPTIONAL)
The Pure Truth serum isn’t necessary to use at night if you don’t want to.  I just like to use it because it helps repair the fine lines and wrinkles and to be honest who wouldn’t want a little extra armor against those sneaky wrinkles.  If you prefer an oil-free treatment in the evening, I suggest skipping the Pure Truth serum at nights.
3.  Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Gel
This product is an oil-free lightweight gel that contains algae extract, alpha hydroxy acid complex (renews skin cells, diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, smoothes texture and balances your skin tone), mucopolysaccharrides (secures moisture to the skin and provides superior hydration).  It glides and melts on your face so you only need a little amount.  It helps you wake up with a brighter and more luminous complexion.  Once you apply this gel you can feel the remineralizing vitamins and botanicals firm and smooth your skin instantly.
4.  Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation
Sheer Transformation is exactly as the name.  It’s an oil-free lightweight sheer moisturizer that has a silky whipped texture which melts onto the skin like silk.  It softens the skin and smooths uneven texture.  I noticed my skin much brighter and more radiant and it really helps with any discoloration you may have.  It exfoliates while you sleep and fades any dark spots.  It contains a calming blend of sandalwood, geranium, and chamomile which helps in soothing, balancing, and purifying the skin to minimize your pores. Usually for nighttime moisturizers you would normally use a thicker based cream to last throughout the night.  The thing I love about this moisturizer is that is has the ammo to tackle all areas but yet it is so lightweight and oil-free.
5.  Ole Henriksen Ultimate Lift Eye Gel
All hail the amazing overnight eye gel.  This gel is by far the best eye cream I have ever encountered.  It is the ultimate firming complex.  It contains biopeptides, hyaluronic acid, persian silk tree and cucumber extract, and red algae.  Doesn’t that sound luxurious??  This is the last step to my nightly routine and its truly the cherry on top.  It gives my eyes a refreshing feeling.  I usually place it on the upper lip, brow, and just under my eyes.  Because it contains red micro algae and persian silk tree extract it super combos to firm and diminish the look of any wrinkles or crow’s feet.  It moisturizes and leaves my eyes de-puffed in the morning.  I mean common ladies…what more could you ask for in this gel…right?!

The Sunday Routine.

I do have a special Sunday Skincare Routine, where I add in quite a few products and switch out some that I use daily.  I try to exfoliate at least once a week, sometimes twice if I’m feeling like it.
Ole Henriksen Sugar Glow Face Scrub
This face scrub is delicious (literally!).  It contains honey, organic sugar, pomegranate, and grapefruit juice.  It really exfoliates and dislodges all dead skin cells and then it polishes and hydrates the skin leaving a beautiful luminous glow.  I have really sensitive skin so I can’t use a lot of chemically packed products or else my face will explode.  With all the natural ingredients in this scrub, my face is left feeling softer and healthier.
Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub
The walnut complexion scrub is just as good as the sugar glow face scrub.  I switch from scrub to scrub weekly so my face can have the opportunity to take in all the amazing ingredients of both.  The walnut scrub has a dense texture which smoothly glides on your face.  You rub it all over your face and it activates into a foam when you rub some warm water on it.  It gets rid of all dead, tired skin cells and leaves your skin feeling fresh and luminous.
Ole Henriksen Lemon Strip Flash Peel
This is really the only peel I prefer to use (all you with sensitive skin probably know what I’m talking about).  Once you find a product that you really love, naturally out of habit you won’t want to change.  I mean why would you?  If it works for you then by all means keep using it.  This peel gives you the luxury to a do-it-yourself at home face peel without having to go to a spa but yet giving you the same results, if not better.  The one-step express peel incorporates a 20 percent AHA complex of lactic, glycolic, and multifruit acids to dissolve dead skin cells and resurface, while purified algae extract and bio-saccharide soothe and nourish.  Because I use the scrubs weekly I tend to only give myself the flash peel once every 10-14 days.  I try not to overdo it because as natural as the ingredients are, it is still not good to strip peel your face too frequently.  However, once I do apply the 10 minute peel, after, my skin (face and neck) feel instantly radiant. Love love love this product and I really encourage you to try it.
Ole Henriksen Rub n’ Buff Salt Scrub (body scrub)
I figured while I’m on the topic of scrubs, I might as well add the body scrub.  The great thing about Ole Henriksen is that there are a lot of value sets available.  This gives you the option to try all of his products in smaller sizes but for a fraction of the price.  In addition to this, they all come in smaller travel sizes which is perfect for you globe trotters.
2014 OK Beauty Award Winner, this scrub is gold.  It contains lavender essential oils, lemongrass essential oils, and sea salts.  It gives you an intense body exfoliation experience while leaving the skin ultra soft and smooth.  Not to mention the AMAZING aroma-therapeutic scent it gives off.  Bath time…here I come!!

The Other Routine.

There are days where I am just too lazy to take off my makeup and I would rather just go to bed with a full face on.  I mean I’m all for the full on 5-product skin care routine but lets face it, sometimes we just really can’t find the energy or motivation to do it.  Either that or I’m in an extreme rush to get out the door or into bed.
My two amazing alternatives to the Ole Henriksen skincare collection are the Clinique cleansing oil and the liquid facial soap.  In May while I was down in Las Vegas, I managed to pack everything with me EXCEPT for my face cleansers.  By the time I realized I had forgotten it, it was already late into the night and time for bed.  I was left no choice but to use the “luxury” hotel offered face cleansers – never again!.  First thing next morning I headed to Sephora to buy a cleanser.  I came across the two Clinique bottles and to be honest the colors were cute so I thought I would just buy it as a temporary cleanser until I got home (I always trust Clinique).  Boy am I ever glad I purchased these.
Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil
The cleansing oil is great to immediately dissolve all makeup (including waterproof mascara).  It is gentle for all skin types.  I usually use two pumps and its good enough to take off all the makeup off my face.  Once done, just rinse off with water and it leaves no residue behind.
Clinique Liquid Facial Soap (extra-mild)
In addition to the cleansing oil, I got a liquid facial soap in extra mild.  It gets rid of any leftover residue the cleansing oil may not have removed.  This comes in a pump dispenser as well.  I only use one pump for this product which gives me just the right amount.  It gently cleanses and moisturizes leaving the skin smooth and refreshed.
